After having found various other solutions in the past I have finally tried to use LyX with Hebrew. I got so far so that the interaction behaves fine, but the output does not show Hebrew. I found that I can get it to work by exporting to an intermediate TeX file and patching it as follows:
> \usepackage{culmus}

But I would rather skip this manual step. What can have gone wrong?

My system is Fedora 12. I removed the ~/.lyx directory prior to testing so that old settings wouldn't interfere.
