I heard recently that it is now legal for the security checks in the Ben

Since the only sanction that can apply to you if you refuse is to
refuse your entrance this does not apply to Israeli citizens
(IANAL).
Assuming the above is true, I am actually quite conflicted about
this. Their response was to say that this was only done for people
where suspicion already exists. In addition, it is obvious that
anyone can refuse to be searched, and the only viable sanction
against them is to be refused entrance. Ideally, I'd say "just
refuse them entrance", but I purely logically, it is better to be
offered the option rather than simply being refused entrance.
I think the main cause for anger here is the fact we do not, in
fact, trust the security authorities to apply the judgement calls
they claim they are capable of applying. With so many stories about
people being detained and questions not because they were posing an
immediate security risk, but because they were posing political
risks, there is inherent distrust on whether this is done to thwart
security threats, rather than as a tool for collecting intelligence.

While I am the first to admit that there is a propaganda war going
on against Israel, I feel this is the wrong method (and the wrong
agents) to collect intelligence.
