Tae Kwon Do Lesson #1

Tae Kwon Do is a system of self-defense based on the ancient martial
arts of Tae Kyon and Hwa Rang Do. Long ago in Korea, these
martial arts were developed to mold young people into an elite class of leaders.

Lesson #1: Confidence - Tae Kwon Do teaches you how to protect and
defend yourself and others; how to act responsibly and make
good decisions; and how to stay in control of your emotions and do the
right thing. As you learn each of these things, you will
become much more confident. This means that you will feel proud of
yourself because you know that you are working hard and
learning very important skills.

Training in traditional Tae Kwon Do is a proven way to become more
self-confident, learn discipline, practice respect, improve
concentration (which helps with school work and/or job success), gain
self-control, and grow emotionally while improve one's
physical fitness.

Training begins with basic techniques, blocks: punches, kicks,
stances, falling, movement drills, self-defense, and hyungs
(forms). As students master the basic techniques, training progresses
with one-step sparring, free-sparring, club defense, knife
defense, ground fighting, and weapon training including knife, cane
and, escrima stix.

Throughout the training emphasis is put on identifying and avoiding
potentially dangerous situations.
