Subject: Starting TOMORROW! New course: For intelligent educated women who
want to fill in gaps

קורס חדש באנגלית לנשים –

השלמת רקע בהתפתחות המחשבה היהודית דרך עיון בתושב"ע:

The Development of Jewish Thought through the Prism of Toshba

(In English)

By Michelle Lewis.

A new course will begin TOMORROW on Monday 16th November.

Come and try it!

For intelligent educated women who feel they have gaps in their Jewish
education, or want to revise their Toshba. The course covers the development
of Jewish thought from Tanach through the Oral Torah within historical
context. Study of texts to demonstrate each layer. Details below.

If you would like to join this class please send an e-mail to Michelle at
lewismich at hotmail.com so that she can put you on the class mailing list.

MONDAY MORNINGS:

 9:30 – 10:30 Am

Venue: Beit Knesset Netzach Menashe, Rechov Reuven 18, Givat Sharett

The course will comprise 20 sessions and will cost 400NIS. Come try one or
two classes and then decide. Free trial class, subsequent trial classes
25NIS.

About the course:
A whirlwind text-based journey through the history of the Oral Law, from
Torah leMoshe miSinai to the present day, paying attention to historical
context.

We will be looking at each of the tekufot from Moshe, through Zugot, Tanaim,
Amoraim, Savoraim, then on to Geonim, Rishonim and Acharonim, with stops
along the way for Anshei Kenesset Hagedola, Ba'alei haMesorah, Ba'alei
haChen Chassidut and others. By using texts from each era and following a
particular halachic issue, we can see how Toshba has developed and evolved
through the ages.

You will have the opportunity to learn, or rediscover, the main works of
many important Torah scholars, including brief overviews of the layout of
the sefarim. You will also be amazed at how certain works came to be (we
weren't always at odds with the Arab world!) and will gain an insight into
just how much Torah scholarship is influenced by the world around us.
