Housing Minister : Young couples are mortgaging themselves for life.
Minister of Housing and Construction Ariel Atias told the Knesset Finance
Committee today that the ministry was working hard to solve the housing
shortage. "Young couples are mortgaging themselves for life. Ministry of
Housing figures show that apartment prices rose 40% in 2008-10."
Commenting on the increase in the marketing of land by the Ministry of
Housings, he said, "In the past decade, an average of 15,000 apartments were
marketed a year. 30,000 apartments were marketed in 2009, and more than
30,000 apartments will be marketed this year. He added:
"We want to release agricultural land; we're talking about a further 12,000
housing units. It's necessary to increase the supply of land available for
building,furthermore supplementary and sophisticated steps are needed."
