 *Dear Parents,*

In anticipation of the students' leaving the school environment for Passover
vacation, it is important to all of us that they have an enjoyable and safe
break. It is not only important to supervise the children, but also to teach
them how to protect themselves. Not only do we have to coach them on road
safety, but also on *personal safety.*

The Educational System is supposed to teach the children different ways to
protect themselves within the "Life Skills" lessons.

We would like to share with you general principles to help you guide your
children on how to protect themselves:

· Walk with friends and not by yourself in isolated and dark places

· Never take short-cuts where people are not in the vicinity

· Never enter a stranger's house even if that person is requesting
help

· Never take candy from strangers

· Never go in a car with a stranger

· Never tell personal information about you or your family to
strangers

Similarly, it is important to explain to children that if someone touches
them in an inappropriate manner which causes them to feel uncomfortable,
they should do the following:

   - Tell them "NO!" in a loud voice
   - Run away from the situation
   - Tell a trusted adult who can help (parents, teachers, guidance
   counselor, etc)

It is important to listen to your children and give them the opportunity to
tell you what is bothering them.

Children need to be listened to and accepted without criticism and/or blame.

Despite reservations about opening up this topic with children, it is our
responsibility as parents to ensure their physical and emotional well-being.

Pay attention to any extreme changes in your son's or daughter's behavior or
emotional state.

*For consultation*: Feel free to turn to your school guidance counselors,
your child's kindergarten teacher, or the Educational Psychological Services
in Beit Shemesh (02-633-4555).
