[RBS] Water and Mei Shemesh - Bet Shemesh vs. Rosh Pina

Just thought I'd share something I heard on Reshet Bet this morning.They
were speaking to someone from the Rosh Pina city council (I didn't catch if
it was the mayor or the treasure) and they were saying that even though that
a law was passed requiring every city to set a "Water Corperation", they as
the city council of Rosh Pina decided that they would NOT do such a thing
and instead they'd fight it all the way to the supreme court. The mayor (who
was an accountant) did the math and realised that such a move would cost the
residents alot of money. Just for starters we now have to pay VAT where as
the bills paid to the city don't have any VAT.  In addition, the city now
has to pay the water corporation the regular water rates where as before the
city paid just the "cost" rate to Mekorot. This drains the city's budget as
well not to mention what it does to the operational costs of other public
buildings like schools, matnasim, mikvaot, parks etc.  The other thing
mentioned was that with the new law, the water corporation can shut off
anyone's water if they don't pay where as before hand the city did have the
choice based on a person's financial ability to shut off or not to shut off
(at least that's how they act in Rosh Pina).
 
Just kinda makes me wonder why in Rosh Pina do they have the guts and
gumption to take on such a fight for the good of their citizens but none of
our local politicians (with all of their political connections) didn't think
of the same thing for the benefit of all of us.
