Keren Yosef - which raises money for emergency medical
equipment - is all about saving lives. This Saturday night
we will be privileged to hear a first-hand account of one of
the most dramatic life-saving adventures of all times: the
rescue of the Mir Yeshiva during the Shoah, by the Jewish
community of Shanghai.

In early 1941, seizing an opportunity to continue their escape,
the rabbis and students of the Mir Yeshiva traveled as a group
across the Soviet Union to Japan and then to Shanghai, where
members spent the war years. Mir emerged as the only eastern
European yeshiva to survive the Holocaust intact.

Saturday night's speaker, Mrs. Leah Garrick, grew up in a
fourth-generation Iraqi-Jewish family in Shanghai. She witnessed
the miraculous recue of the Mir Yeshiva - in which her family played
a part - and is bringing this inspiring story to our community, as at
tribute to Keren Yosef's life-saving work.

Please tell your friends, and join us as we revisit a remarkable episode
in Jewish achdut and courage.
