Lazer Lloyd of “YOOD”

Eliezer "Lazer Lloyd" Blumen turned down a potentially huge recording contract with Atlantic Records in Nashville when he became religious. In the early 90?s Lazer Lloyd and his band The Last Mavericks were showcased by Atlanic Records in NYC. It was his contract with Atlantic that brought him to New York City, where he had the opportunity to meet and perform with Reb Shlomo Carlebach. After playing with and listening to Shlomo at that first concert which was so powerful and deep musically with such real soul combined with teachings and stories, Lazer immediately realized he had found the missing piece to his Blues.

Lazer had never heard of Shlomo Carlebach, but he agreed to come to perform. When he came on that night and he met the legendary Shlomo, he was shocked how Shlomo, upon meeting him, gave him such a warm embrace. This was a totally different experience than that which he had with his prior musician friends. He could feel the true warmth and love that Shlomo had for him. He felt that the goal of Shlomo's singing was to bring people to a high level of spiritual awareness, to bring joy and simcha, and to weld the people together – which he did.

Lazer realized that this was the real life; this was where he wanted to be. He felt compelled to continue in this direction and pursue the Jewish aspect of song and joy.
