[RBS] laws about paid sick days

If a mother tends to a sick child, can she officially use one of her "sick" days and be paid for it by her employer? Can she also use a sick day if she has to take a blood test, ultrasound or have any kind of medical consultation? Otherwise, how sick does she actually have to be? If anyone has detailed guidelines, would appreciate it.
