[RBS] dishwasher racks question

my niece's previous resident left a dishwasher which is absolutely treif.
the inside is metal, so the Rav said it can be kashered.

New racks are expensive and I'd like to kasher them, if possible.

However, I'm not sure what the racks are made of.
To me, they seem to be painted metal.
Does anyone know if there is such a thing or is it only metal coated
with another material (like plastic, )
