[RBS] VPN issues

Does anyone on the list have experience with using a VPN to connect to an office server in the US?
I am able to connect to the server, but the transfer of files both from the server to my computer or vice versa is very slow.
I am using 012 for internet at 10mb, but the the files download at a maximum of 10kb/sec. When I am in the US and connect via VPN the speed is very fast??
Can you please help?!?
