Summer Discounts on Your Electric Bill

This tip has the potential to save you real money. It has time value, as it pertains to saving on your electric bill for usage between the months of June-September, 2012.

The Israel Electric Company wishes to encourage consumers to reduce usage during the peak hot months of the summer. As such, they have offered a discount program whose details we will outline below. You must sign up with the company to be included in the discount plan. The Hebrew site where this is offered, which also includes billing scenarios of how this will work, can be accessed here : http://www.iec.co.il/HomeClients/Pages/DemandReduction.aspx .

Here are the details:

1. The offer applies to usage reduction for the 4 months June-September, 2012.
2. A reduction by the consumer of 15-20% over the comparable period last year will result in a 10% savings on usage for the 4 months.
3. A reduction by the consumer of 20-30% over the comparable period last year will result in a 20% savings on usage for the 4 months.
4. A reduction of more than 30% will result in no discount. (I assume this is to avoid rewarding folks who are absent from their homes for a long stretch.)
5. The offer is for home consumers only.
6. To be included, you must register by July 1, 2012. You should receive an immediate email confirmation after signing up here:
https://srvt1.i-ecnet.co.il/scripts/mgrqispi.dll?APPNAME=iec&PRGNAME=SendPniya&ARGUMENTS=-N8
7. Some days after signing up, you will receive a report from the electric company detailing your 2011 usage for the same 4 months, against which you can plan your reduction in consumption.
8. The actual discount will be figured into your electric bill only at the end of the year 2012.
9. Since most of us receive bi-monthly bills, the calculation for each month will be proportional to the two-month period.
10. The effective date for when you want to actually begin to reduce your usage is June 1, this in order to get the maximum benefit.
