Let's talk carpet - A good shoe scraper, better known as a door mat, is
a big help when placed outside the main entrance. The better ones have
hard rubber teeth. The ones made from natural fiber are useless as they
shed. A word of caution: doormats can be dangerous for older people,
especially if the mats are high.

One solution is to recess the mat.
