Last night, over 50 parents came out in the cold and rain to start
something new in Our Fair City.
Parents whose children have Special Needs, as well as the department heads
of the city's education dept, welfare department, and Community Child
Development Programs sat together to
discuss each child's profile and needs. With three Round Tables, for
physical handicaps, Cognitive Impairment and Autistic Spectrum, a new style
of relationship is deeloping The Establishment and Parents.

Uri Asayag, an experienced Mediator and Yoetz Irguni
(organizational counselor ran this event, opening a local forum in which
parents and municipal bodies will work together in order to define and meet
everyone's needs. It is his belief that governments f all sizes and
everywhere are recognizing that they cannot simply "provide services".
They have to create coalitions with parents, and work as a team. This
enables them to get more information than they could possibly collect on
their own, empowers the parents to initiate and develop projects, and
creates a bond and working alliance that ensures more motivation and
commitment for all involved.
If you have a child of any age who fits any of these three categories, and
you live in Beit Shemesh or the surrounding areas, keep your eyes and ears
open for announcements of the next meetings of the Parents' Forum. It is
the best service that we, together, can provide for each and all of our
children.
