[RBS] Info about old and new private health plans and potential changes

The world of health innovations means that health coverage (both private and that through the Kupot) is constantly changing.

As an example, if you have an old Harel plan from before June 2008, which includes cover for life saving and life enhancing medicines not covered by the kupot, then the cover is limited to chemical medicines. Post June 2008 plans include cover for biological medicines too.

To simplify the difference between chemical and biological drugs, chemical drugs tend to flush out the body or system, whilst biological drugs have almost "pinpoint" accuracy and can search out the diseased organs or cells that need to be treated.  These drugs of the future are being developed through advanced technology called "genetic modification". 

As such, it is important to ensure your cover remains up to date to reflect the changes in technology should you wish to maintain full comprehensive cover.

On a separate note, legislation is going through which may change slightly the level of private cover for new plans sold in January 2014, as well as increasing premiums.

Should you wish to get comprehensive cover before the prices increase, now is the time to ensure you cover the things that are not covered by your kupat cholim, either partially or fully.
