As in many years past, Moshe Feiglin broke the 17th of Tammuz fast together
with supporters in Bet Shemesh.

Moshe spoke to a record-breaking crowd of over 100 people, focusing on the
idea of creating a volunteer army, instead of imposing a 3-year draft on all
citizens.

In an answer to one of the questions, at the end of a long day, a long fast,
and speaking English to boot, Moshe made a comment that was negative towards
Sheirut Leumi. In order to clarify, we bring you his real position:

Moshe supports the wonderful work done by Sherut Leumi and praises the way
they help the country.

His problem is simple: He opposes FORCING someone to do chessed.

In high school, people should be EDUCATED about the advantages in helping
their fellow brothers in sisters.

They should be ENCOURAGED to take a year off before university to assist
those in need.

This program should be supported by the government and presented as a unique
opportunity for a person to give to his/her country by filling a void in
schools, hospitals, nursing homes, soup kitchens and other institutions who
serve the public in many ways.

What MK Moshe Feiglin strongly opposes is COERCING a youngster to do that
work.

Sorry, but "Thou Shalt Volunteer" is not one of the 10 Commandments.

Therefore in a nutshell: YES to encouraging, supporting, and motivating
youngsters to join Sherut Leumi but NO to demanding, forcing, and coercing.
