LABRIUT SPECIALTY HEALTH CENTER This week's Labriut Specialist Spotlight: Reuven Pokroy, M.D. Ophthalmology Dr. Pokroy received his medical education at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa. He completed his ophthalmology training and board certification at Kaplan Medical Center in Israel. He completed a two-year fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery at Henry Ford Hospital, Michigan, USA. Dr Pokroy worked for many years as a senior vitreoretinal consultant and surgeon at Assaf Harofe (Shamir) and Barzilai Medical Centers, where he was the Deputy Head of Department. Alongside his work in retina, Dr. Pokroy served as the Chief Ophthalmologist of the Israel Air Force for 12 years. There he developed expertise in aviation medicine, squint assessment, and glasses and contact lens prescriptions. He has published more than 50 scientific papers in international ophthalmic journals and textbooks on retinal disease and surgery, cataract and refractive surgery, and aviation medicine. Dr. Pokroy believes that patients deserve uncompromising professionalism and avoidance of over-treatment, combined with a good understanding of the disease and treatment options.
