Which side of the date is the beginning?

Is there a convention regarding which side is the "start" of an LTR
line (such as a date by itself) in an RTL file? I find great
inconsistency between applications and even within the same
application. If the cursor is to the left of the date, and the user
pressed Enter, should the newline be before or after the date? If the
cursor is to the right of the date, and the user pressed Enter, should
the newline be before or after the date?
