I have a very poor upload and may want other people to interact with it, or at 
least use the http:// to check out the code, browse the history etc. This is a 
public repository, just that the data there may be non-free and/or personal.

In any case, after consulting #svn on freenode and doing a Google Search I 
settled on http://www.projectlocker.com/ . They give a 2.5 GB storage package 
for 25 USD/year which is reasonable (and there's also a smaller gratis 
package, which I opted against using). They were the second hit on a Google 
search for "subversion hosting" which has a bootload ("Arrrrrrrrrr!") of ads.

So the quest is over for the time being. Thanks for your suggestion.
