Open Office Writer cannot do vertical text and numbers

I doubt that you will be able to type that way but, what I would suggest is that you use a combination of programmes to do the job that you want.
Type your text normally with a graphics type programme like Corel Draw or Freehand Linux equivalent. These programmes are designed to do what maybe Open Office is unable to do. You really need the text flow of the Insert Text Frame to be vertical direction. Open Office does have this option I have just used it and will attach a file for you to see.

To type sideways vertically do the following:
1. Left click on Insert and then on Frame.
2. In the Frame Options, left click on Right to Left Vertical.
3. Make sure that you can see the Show Hide marks and the typing direction buttons. Left click on the Left for Left to Right, and Right to Left for Right directional.

What I've not yet worked out is how to rotate or have the text start from the bottom of the frame going upward.
