Why would it? The transformator pretty much dictates the maximal power.

I can understand the logic of that statement. However, once I verified
that the output without load (any load will negate the resistor anyways)
is the same as the reference power supply I'm trying to mimick, wouldn't
that mean that I'm okay with things as they are?
