Not 2-3 meters, more like about 30 meters under the carpet across the
entire unit's length.
If I move the modem to the living room then I might run this cable for
about 7 meters under the carpet.

I already have wireless-N giving me 270mbps so I though why not use
it, if I can get the wireless bridge for cheap (or free for now -
borrowed it from my workplace).
