How a simple good question can turn into a long debate.

I think you need to study your needs along with the current technology.
Modern processors will not burn - they will reduce power consumption when
they overheat.
Also, modern CPUs utilize less power. There are new multicores that go as
low to 75W. That translates to heat.
And third, you can invest in better cooling - a modest investment in a
"gamers" cpu cooler, even water based, will go a long way keeping you number
crunching at the highest possible speeds your CPU can provide.
[And, you can ask many teenagers to help you setting up a "gamer" setup"]
