Linux on the Asus 1005PG

Hi All,

I see my posting crated a little confusion, so I'll start from the top:

I got tired of looking up WiFi networks wherever I go with my Asus EeePC
1000HE. If I got really stuck, I used my N97 as a GPRS 3G modem over
Bluetooth - but I had the default and basic Internet plan you get: 30
GB/month for the 3G Portal (which I never use) and 5GB/month for the
Internet. If I use more than 5G I pay about 1 NIS per Meg.... Insane.

I now have to use the Internet on the go more than before, so I wanted to
upgrade my Internet plan. I went to an Orange stand at the mall and asked
about the available deals. The told about their Net Stick USB modem and they
also told me that for the same price (148 NIS for an unlimited plan) I'll
get an Asus 1005PG Netbook (10.1" Display) with a built in 3G modem.

I told them I am using Linux and am concerned about the compatibility. I
asked to see the computer on site, but they said they don't have it - it
gets delivered to my by messenger next week... So I am supposed to get it on
Monday.

Why did I take the Netbook and not just the NetKey for my present Netbook?
Well: The USB modem is quite big and sticks out of the side and will surely
break soon enough. It's also a better CPU and a LED screen, and thiner in
size. My 1000HE works like a charm and except a few minor scratches is
works like new. Also, it looks cooler if I open the netbook, turn it on and
it's already online (even if no WiFi networks are available). And best of
all - the price is the same if I only got the Internet plan for a NetStick
or my existing line.

I plan to delete all partitions and install Ubuntu 10.04 Netbook Release on
it. I'll let you know what happened during the week.

Amichai.
