The ADM user/group

I just checked a Fedora 14 and a RHEL 5.4 - both have an "adm" group with
root, daemon, and adm users as members. However, there are no files - in
/var or elsewhere - belonging to group adm on either system.

Out of curiosity: what is the rationale behind the request? Who is bothered
by the adm group and why?
