eMachines EM350 - Linux compatibility and experiences

If you plan on reading e-books extensively, I recommend going for some
dedicated reader (read E-ink capable) device, as small LCDs with high
resolutions will result with serious strain on the eyes.

The downside of course would be that they don't answer your requirement of
note-taking.
