Linux refers to the kernel. Not to the whole OS, which is known as
GNU/Linux. This is because GNU is the OS and not the kernel. For
instance, you now have Debian GNU/kFreeBSD , which is now officially
supported in the upcoming release of Debian (kFreeBSD-i386 and
kFreeBSD-amd64).
So go ahead and install that OS. it won't have Linux, but it will be GNU
:-p

Any script that assumes that the Linux version number is
2.6.<something> . I'm sure there are plenty of those around. IIRC I
wrote one or two myself. Sadly I can't really recall where.
