I don't know what do you mean by custom baud rates, but what I use is a
TTL voltage USB-serial cable from FTDI Chip, for mere 15 quid + S&H.
Make sure you buy the one you need. Mine was TTL-232R-3V3. It works
flawlessly with minicom on linux.
