I'm using xfce 4.8 with gdm 2.20.11 in debian testing and can not
reproduce this 'feature', not with either left or right shift key.
Soon after gnome 'upgraded' gdm to version 3, I opted to downgrade
back to version 2.20.11 because of other decisions the gnome
developers made to restrict user choice and freedom. The debian
package for version 2.20.11 is still available in 'squeeze (stable)',
but I don't see it in the upcoming 'wheezy (testing)'. Sigh. Wheezy
has been in feature freeze since July, but maybe the older gdm can be
restored in Jessie.
