replacement for iPod

The battery died in my iPod. It's old enough to have a hard drive so it
does not do anything except play music.
If I can find the spare I have, I'll probably replace the battery, but
before I spend any money on it, is there anything that can replace it
and be more reasonably priced than a new iPod Touch?
Is there something equivalent to it that runs Android and hopefully is a
lot cheaper. I can get an LG smartphone that runs Android 4.1 for 700
NIS, I'd rather something that is cheaper and not a phone.
I also do not need Bluetooth, but the ability to connect a headset to it
and run SKYPE and or a SIP/IAX client would be a plus.
I don't want a small tablet, I already have a tablet and it's not all
that useful to me. I really want something to play music and thought it
might be better to aim a little higher.
Thanks in advance for any thoughts or advice. If you think it is a bad
idea, feel free to tell me so.
Geoff.
