Hi all,

Sorry for the late notice. GoLUG's mailing list is down so I couldn't
get input on a topic earlier.

Tonight at 7:00 Eastern Daylight time, 6/7/2023, GoLUG is having an
online discussion of anything involving Free and Open Source
Software (FOSS). The meeting location is https://meet.jit.si/golug .
This meeting is online only.

I'll speak for 5 or 10 minutes on Free Pascal. Others are welcome and
encouraged to speak on anything relating to FOSS.

Hi.

I am running Fedora 38.

I want to download MP4 files from Netflix/Amazon and view them later.

I am able to download the videos using firefox and Video DownloadHelper.

However, I am unable to play the downloaded files.

vlc gives the following messages:

[00005635413d1520] main libvlc: Running vlc with the default interface. Use
'cvlc' to use vlc without interface.
qt.qpa.qgnomeplatform.theme: The desktop style for QtQuick Controls 2
applications is not available on the system (qqc2-desktop-style). The
application may look broken.

[00007f5a5c0011c0] mp4 demux: Fragment sequence discontinuity detected 1 !=

HTTP Live Streaming, or HLS, is a technology that allows you to create a
platform to stream audio and video content over the internet in real-time.
Top streaming companies like Apple, Facebook, and Netflix use it to deliver
content to millions of people worldwide. You cannot easily download their
content if you don't have an internal HLS playlist given to the client.
Also keep in mind that streams may be encoded.

Not sure how you download the content, but it might still be encrypted (see
Widevine for more details)

Hi.

I have a server with Ubuntu 22.04.1 LTS and PostgreSQL 14. I was thinking
it uses PostgreSQL 14.7 and I want about to upgrade to PostgreSQL 14.8 in
July (my policy regarding PostgreSQL is to upgrade to it about two months
after it's minor release (major release I upgrade once every year or two
years). But today I checked and I found out that my server already uses
PostgreSQL 14.8. How can this be? Maybe this is related to ubuntu pro that
I subscribed to, or maybe PostgreSQL upgraded itself?

Another question - My server uses Python 3.10 and the version on the server
is currently 3.10.6. Is there a safe way to upgrade to the latest Python
3.10 (3.10.12). Because I use ppa:deadsnakes/ppa but I understand they
don't upgrade the Python version that comes with Ubuntu (in my case 3.10).
But if it was Ubuntu 20.04 or 18.04 then they would upgrade.
