The council members of the Bet Shemesh branch of the Likud met this past
week in preparation to leading the way in the upcoming municipal elections.
*
The Likud is the largest non-Charedi political group in the city, based on
the recent Knesset elections.
The council members decided to appoint a 5-member municipal council whose
charter is to a) single out the one candidate who would do the best job in
running the city and b) to suggest candidates for the Likud’s list for the
city council. Both issues will be brought back to the branch council
members to vote.
There was unanimous approval amongst the members that the only way to
succeed in the coming elections was for all groups to back the same
candidate. It is the municipal council’s job to help find that one
candidate.
This 5-member municipal council includes a representative from both
Manhigut Yehudit (Ilan Solomon, from RBS) as well as from the Tagar youth
group. Tagar representatives pointed out that there is an upswing of
interest from younger city residents to be active in the future of the
city, demonstrated primarily by their enrollment in the Likud as well as
volunteerism for local activities.
We look forward to keeping you up to date as we work towards uniting all
the candidates under one banner, in order to serve our city best.
*Present at the meeting, in no particular order, were the following
residents, all either members of the Likud Central Committee or the Likud
Bet Shemesh council: Aryeh Sonnenberg, Ellen Solomon, Batya Jerenberg, Leah
Karp, Ilan Solomon, Shaul Behr, Hillel Damelin, and Lisa Harris.
