My reply to Logitech EMEA Support

This is really a poor answer as
there are a lot of Linux users who want to buy your products with
confidence. They need to know that like a T.V. set it works! They need
to know what popular programmes like Skype work successfully on which
model. They do want to spend money with Logitech as Logitech products
have an excellent name.

Please think hard about this again.
Moshe

Dear Mr. Brace,

Thank you for contacting Logitech’s Electrical Support.

I understand that Quickcam Chat is not working properly with your Skype Linux.

Mr. Brace, with regards to your issue, I am sorry that we do not provide support for Linux operating system. Therefore we do not have any working software drivers for Linux as well.

You can try google for some third party Linux software drivers which might solve your green image issue.

If you have any additional questions or comments regarding your product, please feel free to visit our website at http://www.logitech.com and update this incident.

Happy a nice day!

Kind Regards,
Stephen

Dear Sirs,
I have been given a Logitech Quickcam 8.4.8 Chat which has a built in Mike. When trying to use with Skype Linux 2.0.0.72 the picture is green and flashing. The Webcam works OK with Cheese and Ekiga programmes.

As makers of this Webcam can you please give me assistance? I have tried

Today it worked once and once only with:

LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype

When I typed the above into System Control Panel - Console with root password the Logitech Quickcam worked OK. However I doubt that without root the camera will work in Skype. Is there away to set Mandriva to do this without having to type this each time?
Any Ideas?

Thanking you in advance
Moshe

========================
Before:

No go with the Mandriva 2009.0 regarding the Webcam. I unfortunately don't remember what I did but for one time I actually got a picture in the
Preview.

I think in the /etc/modprobe.d I added a line

"options quickcam compatible=6" as I saw in www.linuxquestions.org

I also tried both

LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4compat.so Skype

LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v42convert.so Skype
