[RBS] mold smell in air conditioner

Does anyone have any experience with this problem: our bedroom unit air
conditioner (2 1/2 years old) suddenly and spontaneously emits a very foul
mold/mildew smell that is intermittent—now you smell it, now you don't. Does
anyone know the cause of this problem and how to fix it?
