Yes, you need a bank check for any payment since they do not take checks and do not have a credit card machine with them. Also they do not have a copier, so unlike the embassy which takes your passports and makes their own copies, you have to make sure you have all your copies with you.
For those of you who want an appointment, they will be in Bet Shemesh Feb 14, contact elisandy at 013.net for an appt. It is definitely more convenient than schlepping to Tel Aviv, and even though the bank check costs more, you would otherwise have to pay for transportation, parking etc. And no crazy security issues!

If you are considering going to the visiting US embassy in Beit Shemesh, be
sure to ask how you will be required to pay. During this past embassy visit
MANY people were inconvenienced by not being told that we were required to
pay solely by a certified bank check meaning that we had to go all the way
back to RBS A to wait in line at an overtaxed Bank Hapoalim (never mind the
cost of the bank check!). This was not stated on their website as it
apparently applies only when the embassy comes to visit, not in the Tel Aviv
branch. So just check beforehand to save yourself a hassle!
