[RBS] Answer: How to rush renew a USA passport in Israel?

If your USA passport was issued for 10 years and expired less than 5 years
ago, you do not have to schedule an appointment. At the USA Embassy in Tel
Aviv, The American Citizen Services Unit is open Monday thru Friday
8:00-11:00 am. Closed the last Friday of the month. - check the USA
Embassy web site to verify!

I was told my passport would be ready for a trip in 2 weeks. I got a call
to pickup a week later.

Specifics:
The renewal form can be found online, filled out, and printed to take
with you. If you show up without a form, they usually have them, you'll
just have to wait while filling.
You're still in Israel, so bring any other documents you have and might
be relevant. (even though you should only need your old passport.)
Bring cash to pay. (They also accept some credit cards, check the web
site. No checks.)
If you have some patiece and don't mind walking, you can find street
parking, else there are many beach lots nearby. (Bring a suit and towel and
take a dip while you're there, the Embassy is on the beach.)
DO NOT bring anything with you to the embassy except your forms (and
car keys, and purged wallet). Security does not allow anything else in,
including but not limited to cell phones and water bottles.
At the Embassy entrance, there are actually two lines. If you're a USA
citizen, get in the line for USA citizens. When I went, it was the very
short line next to the building, not the very long line in front.
After going through security, look for the entrace to the American
Citizens Unit (or something like that title) on the right side, behind the
barrier. You don't have to stand in the long line for non-USA citizens.
I don't know if they can mail the passport to you. I was told they
would call me and I should then come back and pickup the new passport. In
the past we did non-rush renewals from Jerusalem and they mailed the
passports to us.
Standard fees (no additional fees for "rushing"). There is no "rush"
service, if you walk in, your passport will be ready for pickup a week or so
later.

On another note, I've seen people asking about passport renewal via mail. I
think you can do this. Please check the web site for specifics. If you
have the time, the costs of tracked mail are IMHO well worth not having to
travel, park, and wait, twice, for doing renewal in person.

I do not have knowledge of the current situation in Jerusalem.

Disclaimer: Information and procedures change. Please verify before
going. Your best bet is to plan ahead, schedule an appointment.

Good luck Listlanders,
