We are making progress!

*Thanks to MK Dov Lipman’s involvement*, Mayor Abutbul has agreed to meet
with the Benjamin Library. The meeting is set for Thursday May 2 at 8:30am
at the Mayor’s office. We hope that the Mayor’s positive response will be
the beginning of good things to come for Beit Shemesh.

It is still vital that the Mayor understand how important it is to each of
us that the library remain open. At this point, it is in the Mayor’s hands
alone to determine that the library will remain a gem of this city and not
a memory of better times gone.

If the mayor does not agree to support the BCL, the Beit Shemesh community
will no longer have the benefit of the following library activities:

   - Some 8000 books will not get borrowed each month,
   - daily homework help will stop,
   - weekly storyhour will stop,
   - weekly girls empowerment program will stop,
   - monthly book club for adults will stop.
   - summer reading club will not happen
   - summer computer camp will not happen
   - summer enrichment program for olim will not happen
   - meeting authors will not happen
   - Yom Hashoa programs will not happen
   - special programs for Chanuka, TuBishvat and Purim will not happen

Does the Mayor want to be known as the Mayor who shut down a vibrant
children’s Library?
Let’s hope not.
