Posting for a friend     If you have dry stains, spots, discolorations,
etc. on your carpet or upholstery you can try the following.
Pour up to 1/3 cup hot to boiling water on the stain. That will get the
stain moving. Then vigorously rub the now wet area with a clean towel.
Everything should absorb into the towel. Then, very important, dry the
area with either the dry part of that or another towel.
