David,
GPartED, from my experience is VERY safe. All you have to do is
simple: do a chkdsk in Vista (or as they call it "Error checking"),
then boot GPartED, and then do a simple resize.
I would recommend creating the backup DVD of your PDA using the Lenovo
tools (there should be a tool to backup the PDA to 2 CD's, one of them
is bootable) due to a simple reasons: sometimes during GRUB writing,
you cannot press the "Access IBM"/"Lenovo
Care"/whatever-they-call-it-these-days blue button when booting to go
to the PDA boot partition (although you can still go to Vista).
