Hi,
someone asked me about information (books or online material)
that explains "everything" about I/O on linux - as it goes
from tghe application, via the file-system, the block device
layer, SCSI layer, etc - how it works, how to monitor it, etc.
i tried looking for such information - and i manage to find
only small bits of things in various articles and books -
nothing concentrated enough.
the linux kernel books are too geared towards developers and
don't cover the user-space tools at all (and they cover the
I/O path in a non-clear way). the sys admins guides are too
old or too shallow in this regards. tuning guides mostly talk
about running benchmarks and general rules - but not about how
I/O requests are handled.
anyone knows of such material?
thanks,
--guy
