While I would not put it past Google to make it difficult or non-obvious
*not* to sync contacts or calendar, I suspect that even they cannot assume
that your are always connected to the Internet or that your cellular plan
includes Internet. Therefore there must be some way to keep your contacts
local. What I recall is that you must have a Google account to set things
up, but you do not have to sync. It baffled me for a while, too.
If this is wrong then I would like to hear what version it starts from, in
order *not* to upgrade.
